This summer is going to be hotter than a Las Vegas sidewalk in August when it comes to NBA free agency. The most notable players are Dwyane Wade and one Lebron James amongst the list of many valuable free agents to increase teams chances of winning that Larry O’Brien trophy in June.
Tuesday night's performance of Lebron James against the Celtics was pathetic to say the least. Lebron looked disinterested, and lacked focus throughout the the entire game. Possibly his mind being on the upcoming free agency period or how he’s going to make his move to the number one market in the country - New York City, bright lights, big stages.
I believe Lebron has seen his last days in a Cleveland Cavs uniform, and it makes great sense because hearing Lebron stating at one time he wants to be the billion dollar athlete, NYC is the perfect fit. Now what I see is Lebron & #6 jersey representing the Knicks along with a another free agent in Chris Bosh, you keep David Lee, add a few minor pieces to tune up the roster, along with having an opportunity to lure Spurs guard Tony Parker who has made some references on eyeing the Big Apple and you can have a great to team contend with the Orlando’s, the Boston’s of the Eastern Conference.
The next question should be for Knicks GM Donny Walsh and basketball fans across the nation, who will coach this championship contending team? Will it still be Mike D’Antoni? Larry Brown? or maybe even former Hornets coach & current ESPN NBA analyst Byron Scott who has proven he can take a lesser talented team to the big dance in June, remember the New Jersey Nets with Jason Kidd at the time. What the NBA, the Knicks & the city of New York have to do first is secure James & Bosh, because you cant have the team in the number one market continue to stink up the place. Its no good for the city, the NBA or its fans, from a business standpoint. Lebron will have no excuse, stop chasing bright lights, famous executives & start chasing championships. If he plays like he did last night in the playoffs with the Knicks this time next year, the New York media will rip him to shreds, don't believe me ask Yankees star A-Rod.
After this summer its time for the so-called “King” to step it up and get busy helping bring back that historic New York Knicks franchise. And yes Lebron will be global even more. Question is how many rings will he bring to the city of New York?
On another note will Dwyane Wade stay with the Miami Heat, how will Pat Riley keep this superstar in South Beach. Could Amare Stoudemire join him to help give the Heat that push they have longing for since after the 2006 Finals? Could Joe Johnson & Carlos Boozer be linked up in Chicago or even Dallas if Dirk Nowitzki resigns with the club. Or will Dirk find greener dollar bills else where? Will Houston re-sign Yao Ming especially with the major injury he suffered this past regular season?
One thing is for sure its going to be a very long summer not just for the free agents but for some coaches with teams who have notable vacancies.
See everyone July 1st for the shake up of 2010...
