ITS CARSON OR NOTHING!
Under the bright Friday night lights and the fog and cold of the South Bay, the Colts were one win away from reaching the city championship, standing in their way the mighty Taft High who also come off a big win over the Dorsey Dons last week.It was a very tight game in the first half although Carson was focused, played a pretty game going into halftime leading Taft 14-7.
In the second half Carson turned up the heat on defense, after Taft first botched punt, Tyrell Galloway scooped up the ball and returned it for a 13 yard score to put the Colts up 20-7. When Carson's passing attack wasn't clicking, they made the necessary adjustments and went with the running game which paid off in a big way. Carson tailback Dion Willis attacked the Taft front seven majority of the third quarter, punching it in for a 26-7 score. Taft finally woke up behind next season Arizona State committed quarterback Michael Bercovici who completed four straight passes which set up a nice 11 yard pass to wide reciever Kenny Thompson that made it a 32-21 game. Taft just couldn't convert on opportunities to score throughout the course of the second half. Partially to due to fact that top wide reciever Michael Thomas did not play due to injury. Carson smelled the city championship vapors as Carson QB Justin Alo used the big weapon that worked for them majority of the night, riding the back of Dion Willis as he rushed for a 19 yard Touchdown run, making it 40-21. The running game of Dion Willis and Myles Johnson, took its toll on the Taft defense, which never really had a chance against the dynamic duo. The Carson offense rush for a whopping 207 yards in the second half alone.
As the time begin to tick off the clock, the Carson players raised their helmets, drinched Coach Asante in the celebatory gatorade victory bath. They began to cut across the field, Carson made it to fight on another day, as they continue their quest to win it all in the city & state championship.
Next up for the Carson Colts a matinee affair at the city championship game at the Coliseum on Saturday vs. Crenshaw, who destroyed Venice that same night 63-16.
I spoke with the proud first year coach Elijah Asante and asked him what does Carson have in store to try to combat the high powered Crenshaw Cougars, "I admire that [Crenshaw] program, I have tremendous respect for Coach Garrett, they are like the clash of the Titans, we're going to have to find a way to stop them." He went on to say "we have speed too, we have to match speed for speed, match strength for strength, its going to be a battle. This is Carson, we live off our tradition, our goal is to win a championship".
Carson will certainly have their hands full, congratulations to the Carson Colts, and good luck next week.

REAL TALK -Indepth Look - A WARRIOR never Quits!
This is not a sports topic this time, this happens to be a LIFE topic today.
Folks think I've come this far to give up, throw the towel in now, fuck no! I will achieve, be victorious & stand tall when the sun sets and by the midnight stroke of the clock. Battle my way out of the hole I had created for myself, even though they were those who stood in my way, hoping I failed, I stayed in pursuit of what I wanted, hurled over them w/ the help of God, some great people in my life & the inner strength that I have. I'm determined to elevate, live life better than I have before. The hardest thing to do is admit my faults, because a lot of folks use that against you & try to keep you under. The main thing that kept me under was FEAR. I allowed that to be the ruler in my life, even growing up for years, which I made small strides, but ended up losing out in the end.
Another hard thing to do is take & accept responsibility for my actions. The words that I spoke at times were filled with venom, anger, hate, fear, and frustration. Tired of being misunderstood majority of my life, but hell how could I not be when I didn't fully understand myself while growing up and even into the early years of adulthood.... I was still searching for who Nick really was. I put up such a brick wall with barbwire fences and 3 snipers at the top that I didn't allow anyone to get close to me other than a chosen few, which were my brothas. That's because for the first time I met a group of cats that didn't leave me, they stuck with me through thick & thin, as I did with them. *Loyalty & trust are so important, those are not traits that most people even now have, & most importantly execute amongst each other, its a got damn shame.*
I made several bad choices with the girls that I dated in the past, because I have such a big heart, I saw things in people that weren't truly there, I wanted them to be, but lets be honest, you cant control anyone but yourself. I've been used by people more times than the law allowed. And I allowed it to a degree, because for the most part I didn't take the time to really see some people for who they were. I was very verbally abusive to people at times, some deserve it (you know a good cussin out is cool & they'll be alright), but for most, didn't deserve it, and I'm speaking on the people that I embraced in my world. The folks who were kind enough & gracious enough to befriend & love me.
I used the fact that I had been wronged (which I had), & playing the victim role as a safety blanket, suffocating myself to the world that continued to spin whether I was alive or not, involved in it or detached from it. So when things or people didn't work out I can say see I know it wouldn't & I wouldn't be able to develop any feelings so I couldn't recieve the hurt that would possibly come with it. I developed alot of trust issues, that I wish I would've got a handle on way sooner than I do now.
I've had failed relationships, failed so called friendships (which with some folks I'm glad it died off, because it was a detriment). I recall the first failed relationship I had in my life was with my father. No he didn't leave out of my life, or divorce my mom, in fact they are still married 36 years strong. Growing up after I was about 8 or 9, I wanted to continue a solid relationship with my dad, but unfortunately do to some things that transpired that didn't happen. I grew up with resentment and anger towards him, which spewed out onto other people in my life. My mom & I have always had an outstanding close relationship, and I wanted that with my dad. And until last year or so, he's reached out, and up until a month or so ago I've realized that he has, and supported me. I had to let go of the fact of what happened in the past, because all in all as my lady once told me, he's here now. I believed that that has helped me have a brighter outlook on life, especially once I let that go & buried that in my life.
I'm not damn fool, I believe in standing up for yourself & defending what is yours, however looking to engage in battle & war at every turn and stride in my life, is no good. Not coming into a situation where I want to beat your ass, or cut you because I'm mad at the world, and/or feeling like I didn't get the brakes I was suppose to get. Naw those days are indeed behind me. Negativity only brings on more negativity. I've realized this after doing some heavy soul searching & important soul digging. It took some special people to exit my life for me to see these things. I hope they will re-enter my life soon, cause I need you here.
I have one shot at this thing called life, and before I got this revelation and really took a in depth look at it, if I died tomorrow, I wouldn't be happy with my life entirely, and that has nothing to do with material things or money of any sort. Its the hurt & damage I caused people, based upon what Ive said & done to them, lashing out which was incredibly wrong & stupid, on top of that insensitive. I take total responsibility for all my wrongs and will do everything in my power to make them right as I can. I'm here to enjoy life and make things better for myself, and others around me. It took me a couple of decades to realize what my talents truly are and execute them, because I allowed the wrong people who obviously saw the talent(s) in me, to destroy the confidence in me. Guess what.....I'm back! I am a changed man, constantly growing daily. I'm a writer by nature, love sports & politics, so I write about sports mostly, & going to be the best at it.
Never give up on yourself, always have faith in yourself, watch what you say, because you can't take it back, trust me I learned that the hard way. Still a work in progress, positive thinking, positive vibes, and championship results are what I'm after. Making sure I put up more wins than loses, and having a complete life all around. When I fall, gotta get back up & keep moving.
I'm grateful & thankful for the opportunities I've had, have & going to have. For meeting some awesome people in my life, and looking forward to meeting more. I Fear nothing or no one. I'm nobody's nigga - so don't call me one! Understanding manhood, has nothing to do with the dick & two balls that hangs between your legs or how hard you are, but has everything to do with your outlook on life, level of intelligence, interacting with your mate, how you interact and treat people, and the impact you leave upon folks in a good way. I know now who Nick is, that's the blessing of it. I still keep it honest & I still keep it real, yet I'm sharper about it. I use my mouth for good especially towards my loved ones, and those who I say I care about.
I've NEVER hated on or been jealous of anyone, I just didn't see a point & still don't. Anybody that's jealous of me, you're an idiot! For every hater I have, I have 2-3 supporters, so I'm still in the win column. I no longer allow my past to dictate my present or even my future. I realized also that trust is earned over time, not always given, but when I do, value it. I believe I've been given a second chance in life, I'm making good on it, stay tuned. As much as I didn't want to admit, I was negative, and expected to get better results in life, I was insane to think that, smh. It's about positivity, even when things don't go my way sometimes, keep going & fight until it does or something even better can come along.
A true warrior never gives up! Bend, but don't break like the bamboo. I hope this helped somebody or somebody you know as you read this, thanks.

LETS START THE SHOW.....
After last June’s victory over the hated Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers become the two time NBA champions. The summer belonged the Lakers, but not so fast my friend as Lee Corso would say, a decision would be made that would change the scope of basketball for a good while. Lebron James made his hour long “decision” and joined Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh in Miami to become apart of the Heat. Naturally the Lakers were overshadowed and basically put on the back burner to be almost forgotten. All the talk over the entire off season was how would Wade, Bosh & King James have rhythm, share the ball, wins they would accumulate, and would they have enough to even compete for a title. Who would be the pieces to fit around the Heat, it was a nightly reality show it seemed, and again, Kobe and company were left out of the national sports talk discussion.
Even with their great off season additions of Steve Blake, fiery & defensive muscle Matt Barnes, and veteran center Theo Ratliff, the Lakers seemed to barely make it on the national radar. It was almost as if the national media had crowned the Heat champs already, I mean Las Vegas has the Heat as the favorites to win it all this season, which is a huge slap in the face to the Lakers. Its amazing how the 3 MI-EGOS (Bosh, Wade, & James) combined, have only one championship total. And yes Kobe strengthened his legacy by beating a Celtics team that just two years ago, destroyed & embarrassed them in the 2008 Finals. Kobe, Gasol, and the Lakers redeemed themselves, and the ultimate competitor that Kobe is knew if they had any shot in winning a third straight title, had to retool, and stay sharp.
Of course you know Kobe wasn’t pleased with all the Miami hype when indeed the hype should’ve been placed on the World Champions. Kobe Bryant is a 5 time champion, 2 time Finals MVP, and still no love from national media?
Have we forgotten that one of the greatest players in the NBA is going for his sixth ring (to tie Michael Jordan) and his second three peat. This is the same person, who has 14 time All-Star, Slam Dunk champion, league MVP, 81 points scored in a game. Congratulations national media, you’ve added fuel to the fire, remember Kobe has a long memory and doesn't forget anything. Remind you, this is still Kobe’s league, and he is the front runner, because world wide, people like winners, and that is exactly what Kobe Bryant is. To take it a step further the world loves champions and that is exactly what the Los Angeles Lakers are!
After the great Ring Night Ceremony the Lakers continued to show that championship prestige by defeating the Rockets, Suns & Warriors, proving thus far that they are still the team to recognize & beat with the help of Steve Blake, Matt Barnes & the emergence of Shannon Brown off the bench. The Lakers have the best and the deepest bench in the NBA. Another note, Andrew Bynum hasn't played at all yet, (due to recovering from off-season knee surgery) is scheduled to return around Thanksgiving. When Bynum returns to the lineup, that sends Lamar Odom (who’s had an outstanding off-season playing w/ Team USA), and currently starting so far this season, goes back to that bench with the 2nd unit. Lakers will be almost unstoppable, only one thing they will face bigger than opponents like the Heat, Celtics, Magic, Mavs, or the Thunder,....... and that's health.
If the Lakers are successful and win the championship again in June, the media will have no choice but to give Kobe & the Lakers their deserving respect & attention. As Ice Cube stated in one of his lyrics “number 6 is cool, but 24 is the champ, even D. Wade & Chris Bosh know that”. So that tells me real followers and fans still recognize who the champs are, and not just what the media outlets try to stuff down our throats and force us to believe.
New season, new goals, new destiny, and the Lake Show is tooled, focused, and the Black Mamba is ready to strike and come for what is his.

LOUDMOUTH SOUNDOFF (The Freak, The Halladay, The Penstripers, & Some Moss)
HALLADAY SEASON
Yesterday Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay was simply magnificent. Taking down batters as if he was in battle, only the 2nd pitcher to pitch a no hitter in the post season. The 33-year old Halladay, was a maestro on the mound, leading the Phillies to a 4-0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. Halladay was aggressive from the opening pitch and it seemed the other 8 players on the field were in the same zone. Congrats to Roy Halladay, for a man who was so loyal to the Toronto Blue Jays who were not committed to winning, its great to see him take the big stage get his long awaited just due.
This is not going be an easy series for the Reds, it only gets harder in Game 2 with pitcher Roy Oswalt hitting the mound vs. Bronson Arroyo & the Reds. Oswalt comes into the series with a 23-1 record against the Reds, with no signs of slowing down.
I'm calling it now, the Phillies will sweep the Reds and move on to the winner of the Giants vs. Braves series. The Phillies bullpen is too deep and solid for the Reds hitters. The bullpen is clicking on all cylinders at the right time.
BACK WHERE HE STARTED
Wide Receiver Randy Moss was traded from New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings, a team that drafted him some 12 seasons ago. The Pats received a 3rd round 2011 draft pick for Moss. This was an excellent pick up for the Vikings who have been struggling as of late at the wide receiver position. Moss who seems happy and was well received by fellow Vikings players and coaches, said “To all of the Vikings fans who are coming to the Metrodome, pull your 84 jersey out man. I think its going to be a fun ride”. This was clearly a business decision by New England, and lets be honest New England is typically cheap when it comes to handing out max contracts to its players. Moving Moss was smart, and possibly eradicated a potential distraction to Patriots players & coaches for the rest of the season.
QB Brett Farve has a solid weapon to throw to, there is a lot of football left in the 33 year old Moss, and with this major addition the Vikings look to be the team to beat in the NFC. Barring injury, with Brett Farve at the helm, along with one of the hardest running running backs in the league in Adrian Peterson, WR Percy Harvin, TE Visanthe Shiancoe, a solid & impressive offensive line, and a great defense, I see them making it all the way to the Super Bowl in Dallas this coming February.
Get ready for the Farve - Moss connection, its going to be great to witness for the rest of this season.
YANKEES RETURN TO CHAMPIONSHIP FORM
19th post season win for pitcher Andy Pettitte, as Yankees take commanding 2-0 lead over the Twins. After Twins 2B Orlando Hudson scored gaving the Twins a 1-0, the Yankees began to attack. Curtis Granderson hits a double in the 4th inning as the Yankees trail 1-0. Later Granderson scores on a sac fly to tie the game 1-1. Lance Berkman hit a home run to give the Yankees the lead in the 5th inning. Later more damage by the Yankee bats after a questionable call, Berkman doubles off the wall scoring Jorge Posada in the top of the 7th inning. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire comes out to talk to his club, and also has a few choice words for the umpire which ends up getting him tossed. Bottom of the 9th inning, Yankees closer Rivera comes in and grabs the save for the 5-2 win. Yankees played more aggressive defense than they did in Game 1.
Pettitte was definitely ready and in post season form. For those who doubted, and thought the Yankees pitching would be shaky, Pettitte is a vet, and like most vets, he live for these type of moments. He knows when to turn it on, and make it count.
The series shifts back to Yankee Stadium, I'm here to say this series is over! We have seen the last game of this year at the Twins home of Target Field. If you're manager Ron Gardenhire and after 2 games you still don't know how to beat the Yankees, you are done.....flatline! See you next season.
FREAK COMES OUT AT NIGHT
The Atlanta Braves gave all they could give, yet it was no match for the San Francisco Giants phenom pitcher The Freak aka Tim Lincecum. Lincecum who is a strikeout assassin, set a Giants post season record of 14 strike outs against the Braves hitters. Lincecum may not have had the best season, but tonight that was behind him as he proved that he is one of the best if not the best in the National League. He was sharp tonight, zoned in on making sure that he & the Giants not only sent a message to the Braves, but the rest of the baseball world, that the Giants are coming and they are for real.
The Freak may not win his third straight Cy Young Award, but he did win the respect of those who doubted him or thought his Giants would just fold or not even make the post season to begin with.

LOUDMOUTH-SOUNDOFF
A-ROD FINALLY GETS IN...
Today was the day, after 42 at bats at the plate, Yankees third basemen Alex Rodriguez finally hits home run 600 in front of a matinee crowd at Yankee Stadium. He became the youngest to hit the 600 HR mark, and is 7th on the all time home run list. Now finally A-Rod and the Yankees can finally focus on getting atop the AL East again, now that the pressure of 600 is off his back. Congrats A-Rod, stay focused.
OLD MAN BRETT CALLS IT QUITS?
Gearing up for the upcoming NFL season, once again Vikings QB Brett Farve who is currently recovering from off season ankle surgery was said by many sources that he sent out text messages to various players and some Vikings personnel that he was indeed retiring. For the third time he's talking retirement, which is nothing new. After news broke of such an announcement, reports were that the Vikings offered to add an extra $3-4 million dollars to his salary. Then Farve responded by saying I never sent out any text messages, that once again he wasn't sure if he was going retire. It had to do with this health and nothing else. Really Brett, then how come the Vikings offered more money if no text messages were sent out, along with players commenting about your possible departure? Stop being a diva and make up your damn mind, either play football or retire for good. You're killing what's left of your legacy my man. Its always about money gunslinger, your not fooling anyone, oh except the Vikings and coach Brad Childress who's lips seemed to be permanently attached to your ass.
SHAQ GETS DOWN IN BEANTOWN
Its confirmed that center Shaquille O'Neal is signed with the Boston Celtics for 2 years at the veterans minimum of about $3 million dollars. More than likely he will be coming off the bench with the earlier signing of Jermaine O'Neal due to the knee injury of Kendrick Perkins last season. Honestly its time to retire Shaq, this guy is lazy, he's a bit of a locker room distraction, and he doesn't have it anymore. Shaq stop being the Farve of the NBA, let it go. This signing does not make the Celtics a legit contender, if anything it makes them slower and the senior citizens of the NBA.
PAC-12 PLUS SOME...
The Pac-10 (aka Pac-12) is definitely under a new regime, with the recent unveiling a new logo and preparing the next season's Pac-12 championship & with the additions of Colorado and Utah deciding to leave their previous conferences. To further bridge the gap between the west coast and east coast writers, commissioner Larry Scott had the Pac 10 coaches take a tour of the east coast which included a stop at the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT. Which proved to be a huge success with the media and giving much needed exposer to a conference who has yet to get the respect that deserve as one of the major conference powerhouses. With USC cleaning up its act including removing all images of former players Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo, a new AD in Pat Hayes, things are starting to look bright again.
And yes USC will win the appeal from the NCAA infractions committee.
Don't think that in a couple of years that Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will eventually join the Pac 12, Larry Scott won't have it any other way.
SHERIFF JONES INSPECTS TROOPS
After last week's ankle injury to rookie WR Dez Bryant due to over excessive workouts in training camp, which prompted Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to have serious meeting with his coaching staff. It was in regards to the intense workouts and about one player in particular. Jones stated he was just concerned about the practices yet he's not interfering, and he trusts the coaching staffs judgment. Bryant is schedule to be out of action for 4-6 weeks. He’s not scheduled to return until the first week of the NFL regular season. Dez heal up and hurry back, the Cowboys will need you, trust me with or without shoulder pads.
WHERE CAN BROWN GO FOR YOU?
Free agent guard Shannon Brown is reportedly leaning toward returning to the Los Angeles Lakers to make a run at a possible three peat. Brown has considered offers from the NY Knicks, Cavs, & Lakers, and is said to make an officially decision on Thursday. The Knicks are reported to have offered Brown a one year deal at $2.8 million dollars, while the Lakers are said to have offered him a multi-year deal at slightly less money. Will Shannon, wear the the jersey of the orange and blue or wear the purple and gold, tune in on Thursday.

LOUDMOUTH SOUNDOFF
*The World Cup has finally ended, and Spain has been crowned the 2010 FIFA World Cup Champions. After a 1-0 win in extra time, Spain has proven to be the best that soccer has to offer. Congratulations to Spain on their victory, since you couldn't capitalize in the Olympic gold medal game in 2008, this is a nice redemptive jesture for the country of Spain. Folks love a winner, and the Spainards are dancing in the streets.
*MLB pitcher Cliff Lee was traded in a six man deal from the Seattle Mariners to the AL West leading Texas Rangers. Which was sort of bizzare, because earlier in the day there was a deal in place to send Lee to the Yankees. However talks between both clubs stalled and the Rangers came in took the deal. Seattle also sent $5.2 million in cash to the Rangers bankrupt franchise. Now don't count out the Yankees later on, because Lee is a free agency at the end of this season, and we all know that the Yankees aren't afraid to spend for what they want. I would not be surprised if we see Cliff Lee in Yankee pinstripes next season. If he's smart he'd be there next season, solidify your legacy my friend.
*Los Angeles native, two time champion & former Laker guard Jordan Farmar has agreed over the weekend to deal with the New Jersey Nets, three years $12 million dollars. Good luck Jordan, and congrats. He should fit in nicely with the Nets, and have a little bit more room to play, and be a great addition to the backcourt with Devin Harris. Atleast Farmer should be a little happier now that he's in new surroundings.
*Current free agent Derek Fisher who is in current negotiations with the Lakers, visited the Miami Heat this past Saturday, with a personal pick up from the airport from the newest Heat member LeBron James. Fisher met with Heat president Pat Riley & owner Mickie Arison for about three hours. Then Fisher headed back to L.A., saying the meeting went good and its all apart of the negotiating process.
I think Fisher will return to the Lakers, however the Lakers need to get on the ball and resign the veteran guard before its too late. Have the Lakers not learned their lesson from before about how valuable Fisher is & allowing him to walk away.
Fisher stay in L.A., get the three peat and help send Phil out on top. Miami doesnt have the cap room to pay the amount that you are asking for. We'll see how this saga plays out.
*The troubles for USC Football just don't stop. After releasing their top recruit Shontrel Henderson, (who commits to Univ of Miami), it was expected that USC would be eligible for the coaches' poll in 2010 because of the appeal, but because the school accepted the postseason ban for this season, it became ineligible for the poll. Hopefully USC will get the appeal, and come back stronger next season, Lane Kiffin stay on the straight & narrow, the archaic NCAA is watching my friend, Fight On!.

THE SUMMER OF BRON & CO.
This summer is going to be hotter than a Las Vegas sidewalk in August when it comes to NBA free agency. The most notable players are Dwyane Wade and one Lebron James amongst the list of many valuable free agents to increase teams chances of winning that Larry O’Brien trophy in June.
Tuesday night's performance of Lebron James against the Celtics was pathetic to say the least. Lebron looked disinterested, and lacked focus throughout the the entire game. Possibly his mind being on the upcoming free agency period or how he’s going to make his move to the number one market in the country - New York City, bright lights, big stages.
I believe Lebron has seen his last days in a Cleveland Cavs uniform, and it makes great sense because hearing Lebron stating at one time he wants to be the billion dollar athlete, NYC is the perfect fit. Now what I see is Lebron & #6 jersey representing the Knicks along with a another free agent in Chris Bosh, you keep David Lee, add a few minor pieces to tune up the roster, along with having an opportunity to lure Spurs guard Tony Parker who has made some references on eyeing the Big Apple and you can have a great to team contend with the Orlando’s, the Boston’s of the Eastern Conference.
The next question should be for Knicks GM Donny Walsh and basketball fans across the nation, who will coach this championship contending team? Will it still be Mike D’Antoni? Larry Brown? or maybe even former Hornets coach & current ESPN NBA analyst Byron Scott who has proven he can take a lesser talented team to the big dance in June, remember the New Jersey Nets with Jason Kidd at the time. What the NBA, the Knicks & the city of New York have to do first is secure James & Bosh, because you cant have the team in the number one market continue to stink up the place. Its no good for the city, the NBA or its fans, from a business standpoint. Lebron will have no excuse, stop chasing bright lights, famous executives & start chasing championships. If he plays like he did last night in the playoffs with the Knicks this time next year, the New York media will rip him to shreds, don't believe me ask Yankees star A-Rod.
After this summer its time for the so-called “King” to step it up and get busy helping bring back that historic New York Knicks franchise. And yes Lebron will be global even more. Question is how many rings will he bring to the city of New York?
On another note will Dwyane Wade stay with the Miami Heat, how will Pat Riley keep this superstar in South Beach. Could Amare Stoudemire join him to help give the Heat that push they have longing for since after the 2006 Finals? Could Joe Johnson & Carlos Boozer be linked up in Chicago or even Dallas if Dirk Nowitzki resigns with the club. Or will Dirk find greener dollar bills else where? Will Houston re-sign Yao Ming especially with the major injury he suffered this past regular season?
One thing is for sure its going to be a very long summer not just for the free agents but for some coaches with teams who have notable vacancies.
See everyone July 1st for the shake up of 2010...
